About Department

The Department of Arts at St Xavier’s College seeks to create and enhance knowledge of various disciplines, methods, and phenomena to make dreams a reality. The department strives to do this to promote ethical, competent, and conscientious global citizens, able to construct and adapt themselves to the matrix of changing world. The department pursues this ideal through research, teaching, and community and civic engagements with the support of Xavier’s management. The department provides an array of opportunities in comparison to other single-disciplinary courses. A student of the BA program has the prerogative to cognise their capacities, skills, and career choices. The versatility of the courses the department offers provides the best platform for preparing for NET, CDS, UPSC, state services, and various other competitive examinations. The department offers extended learning by organising workshops, group discussions, extempore, talk shows, expert lectures, field activities, and cultural fiestas. The department takes the privilege to showcase the meritorious students who gained full marks in the subjects at the university level and has also qualified for NET-JRF and various other competitive exams. The department edifices on the belief that “If opportunity does not knock, build a door”. The Department of Arts faculty members are from various fields of history, sociology, political science, psychology, economics, public administration, and English. Our faculties are enthusiastic educators with a strong sense of responsibility and are dedicated to helping students to receive the best possible education. As the head of this vital department, I am committed to training young minds and producing and sharing knowledge that enables our students to effectively engage society as competent and engaged global citizens and successful and fulfilled professionals.
